Our User Program

We provide beamtime to everyone with an active General User Proposal.  Here is what you need to do to obtain beamtime.

  • Register as a User – Become an APS user

  • Apply for Beamtime – Submit a GU Proposal

  • Schedule Beamtime Talk to Cyndi

  • Experimental Safety Form – An approved ESAF is required

  • APS Training – Complete all required training for on-site and remote access

  • Puck Loan Program – Borrow Uni-pucks if you don’t have them.

  • Shipping Address – Ship your samples two business days before your beam time.  There is no weekend or holiday delivery.

  • Prepare Samples – Freeze your samples in the correct cryopucks, on the correct bases and on 18mm pins.

On-Site Data Collection

We welcome users to come on-site for both standard data collection and special experiments.  On-site visitors must be listed on an approved ESAF, will require a gate pass, a prox card, and dosimetry to access the experimental floor.

  • ESAF – Approved 2 weeks prior to visit.

  • Dosimetry – A dosimeter should be requested 3 days prior to visit.

  • Gate Pass – Required for off-hours site access.

  • Prox Card – Building access.

Remote Data Collection

The majority of our users collect data remotely from their home institution.

We provide software for remote data collection, automated data processing and are a member of SBGrid.

  • Remote Web-based data collection

  • RAPDv2 – Automated data processing and structure solution

  • SBGrid Crystallography software for local data processing.
