COVID-19 Research

Novel Coronavirus

On June 15, 2020, Argonne and the Advanced Photon Source started a phased, coordinated process to return to normal operations. The first phase of the transition is from minimum safe operations – the state APS was in starting March 21 – to a stage known as limited operations.

During limited operations, NECAT is accepting beamtime request for all proposals: GUP, Proprietary and COVID-19.  We are also prioritizing COVID-19 research through expedited Rapid Access beamtime.  If you have a COVID-19 related project, please email Cyndi Salbego at necat@anl.gov to schedule time. Time is typically available within a few days.

For COVID-19 priority time, you will need to be a registered APS user and submit (or have an active) general user proposal. You should state that the research is related to SARS CoV-2 proteins or COVID-19. The Experimental Safety Approval Form (ESAF) should also indicate SARS CoV-2 or COVID-19. COVID-19 related research includes work related to general immunity, off-label antivirals, and/or co-infection diseases. This designation is determined solely by you, the researcher. In addition, all data collection must be performed remotely via our remote data collection GUI.  On-site users are currently not permitted at the APS.
