NE-CAT is open to General Users!

It has been a long time coming, but we are happy to announce that we are now open for General User Operations on 24-ID-E!

We will be open to users starting March 11th.  For the first two weeks we will be scheduling full days.  Starting March 25th, we will move back to 2 shifts (Short - 11am - 7pmCT and Long - 7pm - 9am CT).

Please reach out to Cyndi (csalbego@cornell.edu) to schedule beamtime.  Use the following directions to prepare for beamtime.  Please note that I would recommend sooner, rather than later for these items as the users office is overwhelmed with beamlines coming back up!

As always, if you need anything do not hesitate to reach out!

During the upgrade, APS has instituted a new Universal Proposal System (UPS) that is a joint venture with other DOE labs. To be able to use the UPS you will need to have an active and updated APS account, that you have authorized to ORCID.  Then you can login to the UPS using your ORCID account, and information would be shared within the systems.  PIs and group members who want to be on the proposal will need to update with APS and login at least once to UPS.  You do not need to have ALL members of your lab on the proposal, we will use the ESAF to track who is participating in the beamtime.  I would emphasize that the Users Office is overwhelmed with people updating their registration, so I would highly recommend anyone who might participate in beamtime login or update their registration sooner, rather than later so that there’s plenty of time to get them processed.

If you are unable to login with a domain account, you will have to submit a new registration form and note that you have a badge number and what that is.  They will then update your registration and help you with activating a domain account.  The link for new registration is here: https://www.aps.anl.gov/Users-Information/Getting-Started/User-Checklist/APS

The Universal Proposal System can be found here:  https://ups.servicenowservices.com/ups

Please submit an MX proposal for the 2025-1 run.  We no longer have “rapid access” for MX, and it’s a rolling deadline for the whole run.  Please note that the new system requires a review of the proposal before we are able to schedule it, so upon submission send me a heads up so we can assign reviewers within NE-CAT to speed up the review process.

We have created a step by step tutorial for submitting the proposal here: Submitting an MX General User Proposal in UPS
